ACE and EMCH Partnership: For a new beginning for Healthcare System and Professionals

Diabetes and smoking are two modern-day threats to human health that need to be tackled with a great understanding of human behavior as well as scientific research. With that on the horizon, a research agreement was signed between the Association for Community Empowerment (ACE) and Enam Medical College & Hospital (EMCH), Savar, Dhaka, and the Centre for Substance Use Research (CSUR) Ltd., based in Glasgow, UK, with the aim of better understanding the long-term health effects of smoking cessation among Type-2 diabetic smokers in Bangladesh. The goal is to develop a protocol for diabetic smokers in Bangladesh, along with two publications in international journals. This collaboration between three organizations marks a significant step in the health risk assessment of Type-2 diabetic smokers in Bangladesh and will have a lasting impact on the future of public health in the country.

This research aims to facilitate and support this new, innovative approach to treating tobacco-related illnesses.

A signing ceremony took place with Mr. Shams Enam, Mr. Asif Moinur Chowdhury, and Dr. Nafis Rahman in attendance. This partnership promises to bring a number of benefits to these patients, including increased access to specialized care, improved education and prevention strategies, and more comprehensive treatment options. With the help of this partnership, the hospital and the ACE organization will be able to create a healthier, smoke-free life for diabetic patients. Through this collaboration, both parties hope to achieve greater success in helping people quit smoking and manage their diabetes.
